At Peking:
Randi: (reading from fortune cookie) It may be time for a change of plan (something along that line, dont remember exactly.)
Randi: ... huh. Well, the JOKE'S ON YOU, FORTUNE COOKIE!!!!!! I don't HAVE a plan!!!!!!!
There were a lot of memorable quotes, but dangit, i didnt write them down. I know, i know, bad bad Yun Gee. But, short as it was (cursed errands that cut off my good-times-with-old(relatively speaking ^_~)-friends moments. Bah.), i had a good time. Coffe icecream, yay.
Okees, now for, *drumroll* Spirited Away!!! Wheeeee! I guilt-tripped my cousin's husband into buying the DVD for me (bwahahaha, happily evil, yes?) and it was mahvelous! The animation and art was absolutely lovely, especially considering that it was almost all mythical spirits and such things. Poor Miyazaki, with such citified (such a word? i dont know, but there is now!! It's legit cuz i dropped the 'y' and added an 'i'... or something like that.) assistants.
(on how to draw a scene where someone is forcing open a dragon's mouth.)
Miyazaki: you know how, when you open a dog's mouth, you put your hands like this and force it open. (demonstrates on imaginary dog/dragon) Yes?
*sees clueless faces.*
Miyazaki: haven't any of you ever had a dog before?
Assistants, all 10 or so of them: No....
Miyazaki: *shocked* Never? Never had a dog?
Assistant: ...i had a cat once...?
Miyazaki: That's not the same! Aiya... none of you ever had a dog? What kind of childhoods did you have?!
(on how to draw a writhing dragon.)
Miyazaki: it doesnt slither around of anything, it fights! Go to an eel restaurant and watch them in the kitchen, when they gut them. They fight and trash around, their tail knocks things over. Have you ever seen it, it's very interesting!
Assistants: ... no... but we'll be sure to see it next time...
Miyazaki: ... tsk tsk tsk.
(on how to draw a falling dragon.)
Miyazaki: It's falling, but it's a dragon, so it shouldnt just *fall*. It should cling to the wall first, somewhat like a gecko, and them fall in a heap, not slither down. Have you ever seen a snake fall out of a tree?
Assistants: ...we live in Tokyo...
Miyazaki: Aiyaya, what is this generation coming to...
--------note: all of the above are my own paraphrases, i saw it several nights ago and dont remember exactly what the words were
okees, well, sounds like a storm is coming, so i'm off to watch the lightning, if we have any (crosses fingers and hopes). Will hopefully post more later!
