Happy Ides of March!
...or is it Ide?

"Patriotism can produce good or ill.
Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind.
And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind is closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and do it gladly so.
How do I know? I know for this is what I have done. And I am Caesar."
-Julias Caesar: 101-44 BC
Pavarotti sang his last yesterday... but he's going on a "retirement tour" so it's not the end of him just yet. And of all things, his last opera was Tosca, the cursed opera! Hm, maybe he's jinxing his retirement o_O
There's one scene in Tosca that's cursed... no, really. It's the one where Tosca throws herself off the stage (thereby committing suicide). Well, the idea is that since the actress really wouldn't want to kill herself, there's supposed to be a cushion thingie at the bottom. Once they forgot the cushion altogether and the actress jumped off the stage and broke her neck and died. Another time the lady was fairly roomy so they got extra cushions... and she committed suicide properly and all... and bounced back up... and down... and up... and down.... which naturally ruined the whole tragedy affect. And another time the extras went on strike, so the opera people found other people on the street, dressed them up, and told them to just stand around and look like commoners. When Tosca exits, they exit too. So when Tosca jumped offstage onto her waiting cushion, the obedient extras jumped offstage with her.
Hehe.
In other news, scientists yet again claim to have discovered the God Particle. First they thought it was quarks. Then neutrinos. Now it's the Higgs-Boson particle. Have a look.
And for those of you keeping up with the Piracy Monkeys (tm), there's this article from Wired. Guess what they're after now? Facts.
The Database and Collections of Information Misappropriation Act (HR3261) makes it a crime for anyone to copy and redistribute a substantial portion of data collected by commercial database companies and list publishers.
This would contradict the core principle of the Copyright Act, which states that mere information and ideas cannot be protected works.
Under the terms of the broadly written bill, a public-health website could be deemed in violation of the law for gathering a list of the latest health headlines and providing links to them on its home page.
Google would be in violation for trolling media databases and providing stories on its news page.
And meanwhile, here's another tasty tidbit about piracy.
And lastly, for my and your amusement:
It is a well-known fact that idiots are harmful to your health. Idiots contribute to stress, which several scientific studies from real universities have shown can lead to numerous health problems and even DEATH. We believe that it is time for you to take the idiot problem seriously and protect your non-idiot members.
In recent years, the Tobacco companies have been held responsible for distributing dangerous products. You too, could be sued, but for distributing idiots! Therefore, it is also in your best interest to take steps to curb the idiot problem.
Our proposal is simple: each time an idiot makes a comment or a post, we should be presented with an option to disconnect them from the internet. We believe that this is far more humane than clubbing them to death with crowbars, as previous petitions have suggested.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
