packing... half a year ahead of time...

Yesterday while I was cleaning up my room we discovered that one of my walls has some problems... and they extended behind one of my bookcases. So since we're going to eventually have to pack up my things anyway, we figured that now was as good a time as any to start. Then my dad told me that there was no way we could bring all my books with me, so I had better go ahead and divide them up while I was at it.

This was the first time I realized I would have to part with many of my books.

I got two big boxes and started with my fiction shelf... I'm definitely keeping the classics and the ones that are out of print now, and favorites like the Art of War and Shogun and Shakespeare, and of course my manga... but there are a lot that I have to leave, so those went in the Other Box.

I felt horrible. Like I was burning them or something.

I have a lot of books. You really can't tell because I only have two bookcases, but the shelves are wide and unless they're just monstrously huge books, I can fit two or three layers of them on one shelf. And I have a good many old ones like Little House on the prairie and the Anne of Green Gables collections that I already boxed up a while ago. So, yeah, I have lots of books. Halfway through the second shelf (and two boxes down the line) I started crying.

My dad was smart enough to refrain from saying, "They're just books." Thankfully.

Most of them are silly little things that I haven't touched in years. But they're never just books. They're special. Especially these books.

I'll probably sell my reference sets in The Garage Sale. I've got a lot of textbooks... I'm not sure if anyone I know would want them. I think I'll give the math ones to Mrs. Lisa, and I have a law dictionary L-chan would probably enjoy. The rest... I want to give them to a kid who's going to appreciate them, not necessarily for their content or usefulness, but just because they're books.

In the meanwhile, I've disassembled the bookshelf, one corner of my room is unhappily bare, and I've got yummy citrus honey tea~

School tomorrow >_<
