Lie: San Diego has perfect weather.
I haven't felt humidity like this since I left Louisiana. It is unbelievably hot and humid. We had to stand around on the Midway today in our whites in this horrid, horrid weather. Gah.
^_^
So~~ I've finally managed to procure a seat at the internet cafe before a bunch of us set out for the Gaslamp disctrict for dinner. Today we turned in our flightsuits (in our khakis) then went to the Midway for two hours (in our -whites-). It was kind of funny, really~ We all got our tour guide stuff, you know, the map and the headset (which looked very professional with our covers on, let me tell you), and we were standing in formation, getting ready to have a look around... and the tourists started snapping pictures of -us- as well as the ship. Several people asked to have their pics taken -with- us, or would just randomly snap pics as we went by. A bunch of people passing us as we were leaving waved and yelled hi~! to us all... one guy said a little boy came up to him and asked if he was in the army. ^_^ So it was somewhat amusing, unlike the aerospace museum excursion yesterday.
But I should backtrack, shouldn't I.
Week 1 was great~~~ Sub Week!! Whee!! Amanda and I are still pissed off that they showed us all the wonderful things to be done on a sub and we still aren't allowed on. >_< It's not fair... an very cool sub manned entirely by geeks and nerds, where an ongoing conversation regarding star wars flak vests is not uncommon. *sigh*
Oh well. I suppose I can wait it out and get my sub pin -after- my swo pin. That would be pretty neat too, I guess. ^_~
So, anyway, Monday night was spend underway on the USS Alabama. The crew was awesome. They were so nice and accomodating. There were like... 30 midshipmen running around, asking questions at every opportunity. The crew had to rearrange their schedule for CORTRAMID, and they're all getting less sleep because of it, not to mention that I think we females took over 9 guys' bunks and we definitely comandeered the forward head all to ourselves. Despite all this, though, they were always willing to talk and answer our questions, letting us look at things and try things out if we asked.
It was funny, the way the captain and the cheif would always ask about the females, if we were comfy enough, if we needed more blankets or more time in the head or anything at all... Everytime we came through a passage, the males there would fling themselves against the walls or into corridors so's not to crowd us as we passed~~ hehe
Later that week we got to do the dive trainer!!! We did lots of other stuff too, but the dive trainer is all i remember~~ way fun! Except I was the phone talker, and that pretty well sucked, because I couldn't hear a damned thing anyone was saying, so it was hard to issue instructions and messages back and forth when I couldn't hear what -I- was saying, much less anybody else. Then the pipes to both sides of me busted and the lights went out, so I -really- couldn't see or hear anything. It was lots of fun, though~~~ There's a bunch of you in a... well... a bunch of pipes all hooked together and things, it's basically supposed to sumilate being in a sub when flooding begins, only there was lots more room than there would have been in a real sub. The object of the exercise was to patch all the leaks. Meh. Hard to explain, but it was really fun. We didn't successfully patch a single leak ^__^
Then this week was avaition week. I flew in -and- got to pilot an SH-60B and a T-34. Very fun, yes, but it confirmed to me that I haven't the nerve to be a pilot. Somebody in Foxtrot pulled all the way back on the stick in the T-34 and nearly broke the damned plane. He's not been officially dubbed 6-G Chen.
Ok. That's all I have time for now. ^_^
Off to the Gaslamp~!
