Week 1

Thursday: After drill, my car died. Earlier that day I'd planned to go to CompUSA with Rachel after drill so I'd brought some civies with me; my plan was to get my dad to buy some jumper cables and bring them to me in Boulder while I changed into civies and waited for him in the Engineering building. I had Eldest to read, it would have worked out, even if it would have taken quite a lot of time...

But then!! Hope! Literally~~ Amanda and Hope! came into veiw in my rear view mirror, and luckiest of all coincidences, they were parked not two spaces over from me.

So Hope pulled in front of me and Amanda was on the phone with someone trying to find out how exactly to hook up the cables when this gentleman came walked by, noticed that three girls in khakis were trying to jump a car and obviously had no clue to go about it, and took pity on us.

Amanda: And so the black goes first. Right.
Deborah: Wait, wait... I can do it... I know how to pop the hood of my car, I really do..
Amanda: And black is negative. Got it.
Hope: I want to get out of these khakis.
Amanda: Negative is first, yesyes, I got it!
Man: *pitying look* Here.

So my car got started without incident, my saviors Amanda and Hope went on their merry way, and I ducked into my car just as it started sprinkling. I didn't get home til 8 (had to get new batteries and whatnot)so I got a late start on my homework, and the next day I was confused and addlebrained so I went to the wrong Calc class, but it was ok in general.

^_^

so~
Hurricane Katrina.

This morning when I woke up, it was 160 mph. By the time I left for church, it was 175 mph. WHen I left church, it was 210.

Laura's being evacuated right now. I haven't heard from John yet, but I left a message on his phone and I've talked to Anna, so I'll just wait to hear from one of them... I don't want to be using up his phone time if his parents are trying to get a hold of him or something.

It looks like New Orleans is going to be wiped off the map. Baton Rouge is not going to be pleasant, and Lafayette isn't going to be a very happy place either.

New Orleans itself would be such a loss just for the history, the architecture, the art... not to mention all the people who are going to lose thier homes. Some of the universities will probably have severe damage on the campuses.

Katrina is also headed straight for several oil refineries.

Bad, bad situation.
